Dr. Engel attended Lafayette College and graduated from State University of New York in 1971. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at Downstate/Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York in 1975. Dr. Engel is founder and president of Ophthalmic Physicians of Monmouth which he established in August of 1975.
Specializing in Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery, Dr. Engel is a full attending at Bayshore Community Hospital and Riverview Medical Center.
A certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1977, Dr. Engel is past President of the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology and past President of the Bayshore Community Hospital Medical Staff, as well as Chief of Ophthalmology. He was also named Top Doctor by Castle Connolly Guide and Consumer Research Council of America in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and named Physician of the Year by Bayshore Hospital in 2006.
Dr. Engel's wife, Barbara, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, practice pediatrics together in Holmdel. He has three sons, Jarrett, Stephen, and David, and two granddaughters, Emma and Charlotte.
